Over 80% of hybrid or electric car owners opt to charge their vehicles at home, thanks to the ease of using a standard 120V outlet that connects directly to the car. However, this method can be quite slow. To charge your car at home more efficiently, it's best to have an EV charging station installed.
Level 1 vs. Level 2 charging in North Idaho
Every EV can trickle-charge from a standard 120V outlet, but at roughly 3 to 5 miles of range per hour, a Level 1 cord struggles to keep up with a real commute - especially through a Coeur d'Alene winter, when cold batteries charge slower and use more energy just to stay warm. A hardwired 240V Level 2 charger typically adds 25 to 40 miles of range per hour, so the car is simply full every morning. What a professional installation involves

From there the job usually means a dedicated 240V circuit sized to your charger, correctly rated wire for the run from panel to garage, GFCI protection where code requires it, and a clean wall mount or NEMA 14-50 outlet. If you drive a Tesla we can hardwire the Wall Connector; every other EV uses the same J1772 or NACS equipment we install and configure daily.
Older homes and panel capacity
A lot of the housing stock in Coeur d'Alene, Dalton Gardens, and older parts of Hayden still runs on 100-amp service, and some homes still carry Federal Pacific or Zinsco panels that should be replaced regardless of whether you buy an EV.
