Good lighting changes how a house feels and how much you spend to run it. Problem Solved Electric installs interior, exterior, and landscape lighting for homeowners in Hayden, Coeur d'Alene, Post Falls, Rathdrum, and the surrounding Kootenai County area, from a single new fixture to a whole-home LED conversion.
Recessed and can lighting
Recessed LED lighting is the single most requested lighting upgrade we do. Modern canless wafer lights are less than an inch thick, need no attic clearance, and can be installed in a finished ceiling with a hole saw and a fished cable. That means we can put a clean grid of dimmable lights in a kitchen, living room, or finished basement without a drywall project. We lay out spacing for even coverage, pick the color temperature that fits the room, and match dimmers to the LED load so nothing flickers.
Kitchen, bath, and living space lighting
Under-cabinet LED strips, pendant lights over islands, vanity lighting, closet lighting, and accent lighting for shelving and art. If the fixture you bought needs a new box, a new switch loop, or a dedicated circuit, we handle that as part of the install.
Ceiling fans and fixture replacement
Swapping a light for a ceiling fan usually means a fan-rated box and sometimes a new switch leg for separate fan and light control. We install the box properly so the fan never wobbles or pulls loose, and we do fixture replacements of every kind: chandeliers in tall entries, exterior sconces, garage and shop lighting, and fixture swaps for a remodel or sale.
Exterior, landscape, and security lighting
North Idaho winters are long and dark, and outdoor lighting matters here. We install low-voltage landscape lighting for walkways, trees, and retaining walls, exterior wall and eave lighting, dusk-to-dawn and motion-activated security lights, and holiday-light outlets on their own switched circuit. Everything outside gets weatherproof boxes, in-use covers, GFCI protection, and connections that survive freeze-thaw and snow load. Timers and smart controls are available so it all runs itself.
LED retrofits and energy savings
If your house still runs on incandescent or older fluorescent fixtures, converting to LED typically cuts lighting energy use by about 75 percent and eliminates the buzzing, flickering, and ballast replacements. We retrofit existing recessed cans with LED inserts, replace shop and garage fluorescent strips with LED, and update dimmers so the new lights dim smoothly.
Smart lighting and dimmers
We install smart switches and dimmers, occupancy sensors for closets, garages, and bathrooms, and three-way and four-way control so you can operate lights from more than one location. If your existing switch boxes lack a neutral, we can tell you which smart switches will work and which will not before you buy them.
Shop and garage lighting
Detached shops and garages are usually the darkest space on the property. We install high-output LED shop lights on dedicated circuits, add exterior floods, and wire switch locations that make sense for how you actually walk in.
Permits and service area
New lighting circuits in Hayden, Coeur d'Alene, Post Falls, Rathdrum, and unincorporated Kootenai County are permitted and inspected, and we take care of that. Licensed and insured Idaho journeyman electrician, 5.0 stars on Google.
Frequently asked questions
Can you add recessed lights to a finished ceiling without tearing it up?
Yes. Slim canless LED wafer lights need only a small hole and a shallow junction box, and we fish the wire through the ceiling cavity. In most Hayden and Coeur d'Alene homes we can add a full grid of recessed lights with little or no drywall patching.
Do you install landscape and outdoor lighting?
We install low-voltage landscape lighting, exterior wall and eave lighting, motion and dusk-to-dawn security lights, and the dedicated weatherproof circuits and timers they run on. Outdoor lighting around Hayden Lake and Coeur d'Alene needs to survive snow load and freeze-thaw, so we spec fixtures and connections for it.
Is it worth switching my whole house to LED?
Almost always. LED cuts lighting energy use by roughly 75 percent, lasts 15 to 25 times longer than incandescent, and eliminates the flicker and heat of old can lights. We can retrofit existing cans, replace fixtures, and add dimmers matched to the LED load so nothing buzzes or flickers.
