Quick answer

We hardwire Tesla Wall Connectors and Universal Wall Connectors on a dedicated 240-volt circuit sized to your panel, usually a 60-amp breaker for the full 48-amp output, and we set the connector's amperage to match. Every install includes a load calculation, the electrical permit and inspection, and a fixed price before we start. Most installs take about half a day.

Wall Connector or Universal Wall Connector

The standard Wall Connector uses Tesla's NACS plug. The Universal Wall Connector adds a built-in J1772 adapter, so a Ford, Rivian, Chevy or Hyundai in the same garage can charge without swapping hardware. Both charge at the same speed and install the same way. If there is any chance a non-Tesla joins the household, the Universal is the smarter buy.

Charging speed and circuit size

On a 60-amp circuit the Wall Connector delivers 48 amps, roughly 40 or more miles of range per hour for most Teslas. If your panel cannot spare 60 amps, the connector can be set to 40, 32 or 24 amps on a smaller breaker and still fully charge overnight. We do the load calculation first and show you the options, including power sharing for two Teslas on one circuit.

What the installation includes

Load calculation and panel check. Dedicated 240-volt circuit run from your panel to the mounting location. Wall Connector mounted, wired and commissioned, with the amperage set in the Tesla app. Correct breaker, and surge protection if you want it. Electrical permit and inspection in Kootenai County or Washington. Cleanup and a walk-through.

Older homes and full panels

A lot of homes in downtown Coeur d'Alene and older Hayden neighborhoods still run 100-amp services. That does not rule out a Wall Connector. Load management, a subpanel or a service upgrade each solve it, and we quote each option at a fixed price so you can choose.

Verify our license yourself

Problem Solved Electric holds Idaho electrical contractor license 072429 and is licensed in Washington. You can look up either license on the Idaho Division of Occupational and Professional Licenses website or the Washington Labor and Industries contractor lookup.

Frequently asked questions about Tesla Wall Connector installation
Do I need a 60-amp circuit for a Tesla Wall Connector?
Only for the full 48-amp output. The Wall Connector can be set to 40, 32 or 24 amps on a smaller circuit, and most drivers still get a full charge overnight. We size it to what your panel can safely support.
Can you install a Wall Connector I bought from Tesla?
Yes. Buy the Wall Connector or Universal Wall Connector from Tesla, and we handle the circuit, mounting, wiring, commissioning and the permit.
Is a permit required for an EV charger circuit in Idaho or Washington?
Yes. A new 240-volt circuit requires an electrical permit and inspection in both states, and we take care of both as part of the installation.

Typical cost

We publish flat prices for Wall Connector installs so there are no surprises. With the Wall Connector included, the installed price is $1,754.50 when the panel is within about 30 feet of the charger, $2,524.50 for 40 to 99 feet of wire, and $3,294.50 for 100 to 150 feet. If you already have your Wall Connector from Tesla, the same three tiers are $1,094.50, $1,864.50 and $2,634.50. Every tier includes the dedicated circuit up to 50 amps, conduit and fittings, the electrical permit, hookup, commissioning in the Tesla app and testing. A 60-amp circuit for the full 48-amp charge rate, trenching, concrete cutting and panel upgrades are quoted separately, and sales tax is added where it applies. You can book any tier online, and the price holds unless we find something at the panel that was not visible when you booked.
